Rao, Principal, Moolji Jaitha College, Jalgaon as member co-ordinator was constituted by National Assessment and Accreditation Council to visit the institution and validate the Self Study Report. Govt. College was established by Govt. of Himachal Pradesh as a multi-faculty co-educational institution in March, 1985. It is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The College is situated on the outskirts of Sarkaghat Town in a sprawling and lush green land of almost 20 acres. Govt. College was established by Govt. of Himachal Pradesh as a multi-faculty co-educational institution in March, 1985. It is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The College is situated on the outskirts of Sarkaghat Town in a sprawling and lush green land of almost 20 acres. Sarkaghat is located at a distance of 60 kms. from the district town of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The College is located in the rural area. It lies between Chandrakhri Hill Range in the North-West and Dewabrat Hill Range in the East. The College is recognized by University Grants Commission u/s 2(f) and 12(B) in 1988. The students' strength of the College is 2228 of which 2211 are in undergraduate courses and 17 students in post-graduate course. Out of this 1215 are boys and 1013 are girls. The College offers four academic programmes of which three are at undergraduate level and one at postgraduate level. It provides a conducive atmosphere for sharing knowledge information and experienced amongst students. A healthy ratio of male / female students in UG & PG reveals a progressive perspective among educated youth.
The unit cost of education is Rs. 4969 (Including Salary) and Rs. 996 (Excluding Salary). Donation is not collected and admission of students is as per Govt. & University rules and regulations.
The College has a qualified teaching faculty strength of 23 permanent teachers and 7 temporary teachers. The non-teaching staff consists of 14 administrative staff and 8 technical staff.
There are 15 teaching departments in the subjects like Mathematics, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, English, Economics, Geography, History, Hindi, Music (Instrumental and Vocal), Political Science, Public Administration, Sanskrit Commerce. It has the common support services like Central Library, Sports facilities and Canteen.
The Peer Team carefully perused and analyzed the Self Study Report submitted by the institution. During the visit, the Peer Team went through all the relevant documents, visited the departments, support services and facilities and interacted with various constituents of the institution like Principal, Teaching and Non-teaching staff, Students, Parents and Alumnae. The academic, co-curricular, extra-curricular, sports and extension facilities of the institution were visited.
Based on the above exercise and keeping in mind the criteria identified by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the Peer Team has aimed the assessment of the institution alongwith its commendable features as well as the issues of concern.
CURRICULAR ASPECTS
The College is an affiliated institution. It follows the academic curriculum, syllabi and scheme of examination as designed by the affiliating university i.e. Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. The College offers three U.G. programmes in the Faculty of Science, Arts and Commerce and one P.G. programme in the Faculty of Arts. There are 3 years degree courses like B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com and 2 years Masters Degree in Economics. 26 options are provided for the course in B.A. and options of Medical and Non-Medical combinations are offered in B.Sc. The Masters Degree in Economics provides 2 specializations.
Fair flexibility is offered to the students to elect combinations of the courses. The review and revision of the curricula is done at the University level. One lecturer of the College, as the Member of Board of Studies in the affiliating University, contributes in the curriculum design. The basic aims and objectives of the institution are to impart quality higher education to rural youth and to inculcate the sense of equality and to provide apt opportunities for the upliftment of under-privileged youth of the region. The extra-curricular activities are planned by the College including sports and cultural activities. It provides for educational tours and excursions for the students of different courses. Environmental education is being imparted to the students. The College has a plan to start Postgraduate Degree Programme in Political Science and History from the next academic year, for which affiliating university – Himachal Pradesh University Shimla has already granted permission. The goals & objectives of the college are clearly stated in the prospectus published annually.
