Keolidhar is Hilly Tourism Place situated between Pandoh and Kandha road in Mandi District. This beautiful valley is famous for green views and thick devdar (Tree) forests. Lihanu / Tharjoon DPF and Viradhar DPF (forest circles) are viewable and good points for trekking. Keolidhar bazar is very small and only 15/20 shops are there in the main market. Another popular name for Keolidhar is KELODHAR . The meaning of this place is very interesting, this name is combined of: KEOLI + DHAR. Which means DHAR (Hill) covered with KEOLI (Devdar trees).

Mahakali Temple:

Beyond time Mahakali is known as one of the form of the Goddess Durga and Kali it is believed that she is the force of anger and is a greatest aspect of Durga or Adi parashakti whom many Hindus hold as a Divine Mother, and therefore her colour is black.

In various place you might have seen she is shown standing on the prone i.e dead body of Lord Shiva. Indian people believe / interpreted it in various ways but the most common is that Mahakali (Goddess) represents Shakti (Power), the power of creation, time and death in the universe and Lord Shiva is the God of consciousness, which is inert in and of itself.

In the ancient days, it was a traditional to sacrifice a Buffalo after every 14 years which is called BHAINSA BALI by the local people. It was believed by the local people that if they will sacrifice a Buffalo to Goddess, they will make her happy and she will protect the valley and local people for next 14 years. But now a days villagers committed not to sacrifice a Buffalo as it has been banned by the government of India to sacrifice any animal in sacred places.

Trekking points:-

Small trekking routes of 2 / 3 km are available from main market and from new Mahakali temple. Main trekking point is towards old temple of Mata Mahakali Lambodri. Options are also available to trek through Batand village, Bah village and towards Bagsaid valley.
