Mandi District OverView

Mandi is the central district of Himachal Pradesh, India. There is also a town called Mandi, which has a distinguished history and interesting architecture. It is also an important transportation hub for the state. Sundarnagar is one of the emerging towns of this district. Mandi has a highly educated middle class and people speak a dialect of Pahari called Mandyali

    * Area: 3950 sq. km

    * Population: 9.01 lakh

    * Clothing: Cotton clothes in summer and woolen to heavy woolen in winter.

    * Language: Hindi, Punjabi, English, Pahari and Mandyali are understood and spoken by the people engaged in tourism trade.

    * Train: The nearest railway stations are Joginder Nagar and Shimla by narrow gauge train, Chandigarh and Kalka by broad gauge train which are connected by regular bus services.

    * Road: Mandi is approachable by road from Shimla, Chandigarh, Pathankot and Delhi. There are regular bus services linking it to the other towns like Manali, Palampur and Dharamshala.
    * Airplane: The nearest airport is at Bhuntar in Kullu District, about 50 km from the district.
